Painted in the summer of 2012, this painting captures a view through Central Park of One57 by architect Christian de Portzamparc. This building struck me when I returned to the city for the summer while I was based in Oregon. It had an imposing effect on the park, and was visible from many vantage points. As a continuation of the theme I began the summer prior in the northern section of the park I set out to capture this building while it was still a work in progress. Little did I know that this would be the start of a trend of luxury condominium developments just south of of Central Park. At the time of this writing, One57 is dwarfed by multiple adjacent towers that extend as high as 1.5x its height into the skyline.
